3. Excessive Caffeine

While a morning cup of coffee may be a comforting ritual, excessive caffeine intake can be problematic during pregnancy. High caffeine consumption has been linked to an increased risk of miscarriage and preterm birth. To keep your caffeine intake in check, limit yourself to a moderate level, which is generally considered to be around 200-300 milligrams per day. This is roughly equivalent to one 12-ounce cup of coffee. Don’t forget to account for other sources of caffeine, such as tea, soda, and chocolate.
