Description

These Easy Glazed Fresh Cherry Almond Scones are a delightful blend of tart cherries and nutty almond flavors, making for a perfect breakfast or snack treat.


Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1 Tablespoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

5 Tablespoons cold butter

4 Tablespoons cold cream cheese

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 egg

1 teaspoon almond extract

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

1 1/3 cups fresh cherries pitted and halved

1/4 cup sliced almonds + 2 Tbsp. for topping

1 cup powdered sugar

2 Tablespoons cream cheese room temperature

23 Tablespoons heavy cream

1 teaspoon almond extract


Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Cut in the cold butter and cream cheese until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, egg, almond extract, and vanilla.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Gently fold in the fresh cherries and sliced almonds.
  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and pat it into a circle about 1-inch thick. Cut into wedges and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Sprinkle the tops with additional sliced almonds and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  • While the scones are baking, prepare the glaze by mixing powdered sugar, cream cheese, heavy cream, and almond extract until smooth.
  • Once the scones are cooled, drizzle the glaze over the top and enjoy.

Notes

For best results, use cold ingredients to keep the scones flaky. You can substitute other fruits for cherries if desired.
