- 1/3 cup HOT water
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon milk
- 1 Tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 cup oil
- for frying
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, lemon juice, and water. Stir well and set aside for about 15 minutes.
- In another bowl, mix the flour and salt. Cut in the cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add hot water until a dough forms. Knead lightly and roll out on a floured surface.
- Cut dough into circles, about 4 inches in diameter. Place a spoonful of apple filling in the center of each circle.
- Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape and seal the edges by crimping with a fork.
- Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the pies in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove from oil and place on paper towels to drain excess oil. Mix milk and sugar for the glaze and drizzle over the fried pies if desired.
