- 1/2 cup butter
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 whole egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp. almond extract
- 3 Tbsp. cream cheese
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup butter for frosting
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 Tbsp. milk
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract for frosting
- pink food coloring gel optional
- sprinkles optional
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together 1/2 cup butter and 3/4 cup sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg, vanilla extract, almond extract, and cream cheese; mix until well combined.
- In another bowl, combine the baking powder and flour. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Spread the batter evenly in the prepared baking pan.
- Bake for about 20-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool completely before frosting.
- For the frosting, cream together 1/4 cup softened butter and 2 cups powdered sugar.
- Add 2 Tbsp. milk and 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract, mixing until smooth. Add pink food coloring gel if desired.
- Spread the frosting over the cooled sugar cookie bars and top with sprinkles if desired.
Notes
For a more festive touch, use colored sprinkles or shape the bars for holidays.
