Description

Sour Cream and Onion Chicken is a creamy, flavorful dish that’s perfect for a weeknight dinner. Tender chicken breasts are sautéed and simmered in a rich sour cream sauce with onions and garlic.


Ingredients

2 boneless skinless chicken breasts

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Salt & pepper to taste

1 tablespoon olive oil

2 tablespoons butter divided

1 medium onion sliced

1 clove garlic minced

1/2 cup chicken broth

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1 cup sour cream full-fat

Fresh chopped parsley optional

to taste


Instructions

  • Season the chicken breasts with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook until browned on both sides, about 6-8 minutes per side.
  • Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Then add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  • Pour in the chicken broth and Worcestershire sauce. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
  • Reduce the heat to low and return the chicken to the skillet. Cover and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes, until the chicken is cooked through.
  • Remove the chicken again and stir in the sour cream and remaining tablespoon of butter until melted and well combined. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
  • Return the chicken to the skillet and coat with the sauce. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, let the dish simmer a bit longer for deeper onion and garlic flavors. Serve this dish over rice or pasta to soak up the delicious sauce.
