- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup butter
- 3/4 cup water
- 5 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 6 tbsp buttermilk
- 1/2 cup butter
- 5 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 lb powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup walnuts chopped
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, flour, and salt.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter with water and cocoa powder over medium heat, and bring to a boil.
- Pour the hot mixture into the dry ingredients and mix well.
- Add buttermilk, eggs, and baking soda to the mixture and stir until combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- For the frosting, melt butter in a saucepan, then mix in cocoa powder, buttermilk, and vanilla extract.
- Remove from heat and gradually stir in powdered sugar until smooth.
- Spread the frosting over the cooled cake and sprinkle with chopped walnuts.
- Cut into bites and serve.
Notes
Let the cake cool completely before frosting to prevent the frosting from melting.
