Description
This Rustic Italian Crusty Bread Recipe will fill your kitchen with the warm, inviting aroma of freshly baked bread. With a simple combination of flour, yeast, and water, you can create a deliciously crusty loaf that’s perfect for pairing with soups, salads, or just butter.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3.25 cups all purpose flour + more for dusting
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 1.5 cups warm water
- 2 tsp instant yeast (or active dry yeast)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sea salt, and instant yeast.
- Gradually add the warm water to the dry ingredients and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a damp towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Once risen, turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Knead for a minute and then shape into a round loaf.
- Place the dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let it rest for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) while the dough rests.
- Before baking, make a few shallow slashes on the top of the loaf with a sharp knife.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Allow the bread to cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
Notes
Make sure to use warm water to help activate the yeast properly. For added flavor, you can let the dough rise slowly in the refrigerator overnight.
