- 4 tablespoons softened unsalted butter divided
- 3 pounds (4 or 5 medium) russet potatoes peeled
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup shredded white cheddar cheese
- 6 tablespoons grated Parmesan divided
- 3 garlic cloves minced
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish with 1 tablespoon of butter.
- Slice the peeled russet potatoes into thin rounds, about 1/8-inch thick.
- In a saucepan, combine the heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, and pepper over medium heat and warm it through, without bringing it to a boil.
- Layer half of the potato slices in the greased baking dish and sprinkle with half of the white cheddar and half of the Parmesan cheese.
- Pour half of the warm cream mixture over the potatoes. Repeat the layering with the remaining potatoes, cheeses, and cream mixture.
- Dot the top with the remaining butter and sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For added flavor, consider adding herbs such as thyme or rosemary between the layers of potatoes.
