- 2 cups (414g) sugar
- 3/4 cup (85g) natural unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup (240ml) milk
- 1/2 cup (120ml) vegetable oil
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup (240ml) hot water
- 2 cups (448g) unsalted butter (room temperature)
- 1 1/4 cups (350g) peanut butter
- 9 cups (1035g) powdered sugar
- 6–7 tbsp (90-105ml) water (or milk)
- 6 Reese’s peanut butter cups (chopped)
- 1 pinch salt
- 6 oz (1 cup) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy whipping cream
- 4 Reese’s peanut butter cups (cut in half)
- crumbled Reese’s peanut butter cups
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the milk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and eggs to the dry ingredients, mixing until well combined.
- Slowly stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- To make the peanut butter frosting, beat the room temperature butter and peanut butter together until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar, mixing well. Add water or milk as needed to reach desired consistency.
- Once cakes are cool, spread a layer of peanut butter frosting between them and then cover the top and sides with more frosting.
- For the ganache, heat the heavy cream until it simmers, then remove from heat and stir in the chocolate chips until smooth.
- Pour the ganache over the frosted cake and let it drip down the sides.
- Finish by topping with chopped Reese’s peanut butter cups and crumbles.
Notes
For best results, ensure all ingredients are at room temperature before starting. You can adjust the consistency of the frosting by adding more liquid if needed.
