- ¼ tsp cloves
- ½ tsp ground cardamom
- ½ tsp ground ginger
- 130 g unsalted butter
- 130 g white sugar
- ¼ tsp sea salt
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 160 g AP flour
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp ground ginger
- 115 g unsalted butter
- 100 g white sugar
- ¼ tsp sea salt
- 94 g AP flour
- 50 g rolled oats
- 40 g chopped pecans
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
- Prepare the apple filling by peeling and slicing the apples, then mixing them with sugar, sea salt, vanilla, lemon juice, lemon zest, rum, cornstarch, and spices.
- In a separate bowl, mix the ingredients for the shortbread crust until crumbly, then press it evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Spread the apple filling over the crust and set aside.
- For the crumble topping, mix chilled butter, sugar, sea salt, flour, oats, and pecans together until crumbly, then sprinkle it over the apples.
- Bake for about 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
- Allow to cool before slicing into bars and serving.
Notes
For a non-alcoholic option, substitute the rum or brandy with apple cider. Let the bars cool completely for best results when cutting into pieces.
