Ingredients
1 lb kielbasa sausage
sliced into ¼-inch rounds
6 medium Yukon Gold potatoes
peeled and thinly sliced
1 small onion
finely chopped
3 Tbsp unsalted butter
3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
2 cups whole milk
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp smoked paprika
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese (reserve ½ cup for topping)
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat and sauté the chopped onions until translucent.
- Stir in the flour, garlic powder, and smoked paprika, cooking for an additional minute.
- Gradually add the milk, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens and is smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- In a 9×13-inch baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, followed by half of the kielbasa. Pour half of the cheese sauce over this layer. Repeat the layering process.
- Top with the reserved cheddar cheese and cover with aluminum foil.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Garnish with fresh parsley if desired before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider adding your favorite vegetables like bell peppers or spinach to the casserole.
