½ cup unsalted butter

1½ cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar (for batter)

2 teaspoons baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup whole milk

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg


Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine the sliced peaches with 1 cup of granulated sugar, water, and lemon juice. Stir to coat the peaches and let them sit for about 10 minutes.
  • While the peaches are resting, melt the butter in a baking dish in the preheated oven.
  • In another bowl, mix together the flour, 1 cup of sugar, baking powder, and salt. Gradually stir in the milk and vanilla extract until just combined.
  • Pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish. Do not stir.
  • Spoon the peach mixture over the batter, including the juice. Again, do not stir.
  • Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg to taste.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the peaches are bubbly.
