  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups mascarpone cheese
  • 1 ½ cups heavy cream
  • 2 cups cooled espresso or strong coffee
  • 2 tablespoons coffee liqueur
  • 24 ladyfingers
  • unsweetened cocoa powder
  • dark chocolate curls

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and granulated sugar until pale and creamy.
  2. Add the mascarpone cheese to the egg mixture, mixing until smooth and fully incorporated.
  3. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream to stiff peaks and gently fold it into the mascarpone mixture.
  4. Combine cooled espresso with coffee liqueur (if using) in a shallow dish.
  5. Briefly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they’re soaked but not soggy.
  6. Layer half of the soaked ladyfingers in a serving dish and spread half of the mascarpone mixture over them.
  7. Repeat the layers with the remaining ladyfingers and mascarpone mixture.
  8. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for best results.
  9. Before serving, dust the top with unsweetened cocoa powder and garnish with dark chocolate curls if desired.
