Homemade Gooey Cinnamon Rolls with Vanilla Icing

  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 12 cinnamon rolls
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Indulge in the homemade goodness of gooey cinnamon rolls draped in rich vanilla icing, perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Whole milk

Instant dry yeast

Granulated sugar

Unsalted butter

Eggs

Salt

All-purpose flour

Dark brown sugar

Ground cinnamon

Unsalted butter for filling

Powdered sugar

Whole milk for icing

Unsalted butter for icing

Vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, warm the whole milk until it’s just above body temperature, then remove from heat and sprinkle the instant dry yeast and a teaspoon of granulated sugar over it. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted unsalted butter, eggs, remaining granulated sugar, and salt. Mix well.
  • Add the frothy yeast mixture to the bowl, then gradually incorporate the all-purpose flour until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Once risen, roll out the dough into a large rectangle. Spread the softened unsalted butter over the surface, then sprinkle the dark brown sugar and ground cinnamon evenly on top.
  • Roll the dough tightly into a log, then cut into equal pieces. Arrange the pieces in a greased baking pan and cover. Let them rise for an additional 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the cinnamon rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  • While they bake, prepare the icing by mixing powdered sugar, whole milk, melted unsalted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Once the rolls are baked, drizzle the vanilla icing over them while they are still warm. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

For a richer flavor, let the dough rise overnight in the refrigerator. This enhances the taste and texture of the rolls.
