Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
- In another bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and black gel food coloring until combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Scoop the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are set but the centers are still soft. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- For the frosting, beat together the softened cream cheese and unsalted butter until smooth, then gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, mixing until creamy.
- Stir in the vanilla extract, adding milk as necessary to achieve the desired consistency.
