  • 2 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • green gel food coloring
  • purple gel food coloring
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon heavy whipping cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • black gel food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together 3/4 cup softened butter and 1 1/4 cup granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add in 1 tablespoon of vanilla bean paste, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. In another bowl, combine 1 cup milk, 2 1/4 cups flour, 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt, then gradually add to the creamed mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter into two bowls and add green gel food coloring to one bowl and purple gel food coloring to the other, mixing until desired colors are reached.
  6. Pour the green batter into one prepared pan and the purple batter into the other, then bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Allow cakes to cool for 10 minutes in the pans, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
  8. For the frosting, beat 1 cup unsalted butter until creamy, then gradually add 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon heavy whipping cream, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, mixing until smooth. Add black gel food coloring until desired darkness is reached.
  9. Once cakes are cool, frost the top of the green layer with black frosting and stack with the purple layer. Frost the top and sides of the cake.
  10. Decorate with the sprinkle mix to create a monstrous effect.

For best results, ensure all ingredients are at room temperature before starting. Feel free to get creative with colors and sprinkles to enhance the Halloween theme.
