  • Author: pregmommy
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 sandwiches 1x

Description

These French Dip Sandwiches feature tender roast beef, melted provolone cheese, and rich, savory au jus for a comforting restaurant-style meal that’s easy to make at home. Ready in about 30 minutes, they’re perfect for a hearty lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Roast beef slices
  • Fresh steak rolls, toasted
  • Sliced provolone cheese
  • 1 packet au jus mix
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise per sandwich, optional
  • 1 small pad of butter
  • Onion powder, to taste
  • Garlic powder, to taste
  • Salt, to taste
  • Crushed red pepper, optional
  • Water, use more than the packet recommends for extra au jus
  • Grilled onions, optional

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Au Jus: Follow the au jus packet instructions, using more water than directed for extra dipping sauce. Add a small pad of butter, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and crushed red pepper if desired. Let simmer until the flavors combine.
  2. Assemble the Sandwiches: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on the inside of each toasted steak roll. Drizzle a few spoonfuls of au jus over the bottom half of each roll.
  3. Add the Beef and Cheese: Layer the roast beef slices onto the rolls and top each sandwich with provolone cheese.
  4. Bake: Place the assembled sandwiches on a baking sheet and bake for about 10 minutes, until the cheese begins to melt. Spoon a little more au jus over the sandwiches and bake for another 8–10 minutes, until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
  5. Serve: Serve the sandwiches warm with individual bowls of extra au jus for dipping. Add grilled onions if desired.

Notes

  • Use extra water when preparing the au jus if you prefer plenty of dipping sauce.
  • Fresh steak rolls provide a hearty base and can be lightly toasted before assembling.
  • Add grilled onions for extra savory flavor.
  • Serve immediately while the provolone is warm and melted.
