Instructions
- Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to the package instructions and bake in a 9×13 inch pan. Allow to cool completely.
- Once cooled, crumble the cake into a large bowl and mix in chocolate chips, if using, until well combined.
- Form the mixture into small balls and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Insert a wooden cake pop stick into each ball and freeze for about 30 minutes.
- While the pops are freezing, make the brown butter frosting by browning the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until it turns golden. Allow it to cool slightly.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the browned butter with powdered sugar, cocoa powder, whole milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Mix until smooth and creamy.
- Remove the cake pops from the freezer and dip each one in the frosting, letting any excess drip off.
- Melt the white candy melts or white chocolate and use it to pipe laces on each cake pop to resemble a football.
- Decorate with sprinkles or edible glitter if desired. Allow the frosting to set before serving.
Notes
For best results, let the cake pops freeze thoroughly before dipping in frosting to ensure they hold their shape.
