This Favorite Fig Bread Recipe combines the natural sweetness of figs with warming spices, creating a deliciously moist and fragrant bread perfect for breakfast or a snack.
Ingredients
- Fresh or frozen figs
- All-purpose flour or a combination of whole wheat flour and all-purpose flour
- Granulated sugar or a combination of granulated sugar and brown sugar
- Ground cardamom
- Cinnamon powder
- Ground cloves
- Freshly ground nutmeg
- Walnuts or pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
- If using fresh figs, chop them coarsely. If using dried figs, rehydrate them in hot water, then chop. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and spices.
- Fold in the figs and nuts (if using) into the dry mixture.
- Add in wet ingredients like eggs and melted butter, stirring just until combined.
- Pour the batter into the greased loaf pan.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool before slicing.
Notes
For best results, use fresh or frozen figs. If substituting with fig jam, be sure to reduce the sugar accordingly.
