Description

This Favorite Fig Bread Recipe combines the natural sweetness of figs with warming spices, creating a deliciously moist and fragrant bread perfect for breakfast or a snack.

Ingredients

  • Fresh or frozen figs
  • All-purpose flour or a combination of whole wheat flour and all-purpose flour
  • Granulated sugar or a combination of granulated sugar and brown sugar
  • Ground cardamom
  • Cinnamon powder
  • Ground cloves
  • Freshly ground nutmeg
  • Walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
  2. If using fresh figs, chop them coarsely. If using dried figs, rehydrate them in hot water, then chop. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and spices.
  4. Fold in the figs and nuts (if using) into the dry mixture.
  5. Add in wet ingredients like eggs and melted butter, stirring just until combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the greased loaf pan.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow to cool before slicing.

Notes

For best results, use fresh or frozen figs. If substituting with fig jam, be sure to reduce the sugar accordingly.
