Ingredients
5–6 cups Colomba bread (cubed)
2 tablespoons butter (melted)
3 large eggs
1¼ cups milk
2 tablespoons brown sugar (lightly packed)
½ tablespoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon salt
½ tablespoon cinnamon (topping)
¼ cup brown sugar (topping)
3 tablespoons flour (topping)
3 tablespoons butter (topping)
2 tablespoons hazelnuts (optional)
2–3 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 cup maple syrup
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine the cubed Colomba bread with melted butter, mixing well.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt until fully blended.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, pressing down gently to ensure all the bread absorbs the liquid.
- In a separate bowl, mix the topping ingredients: cinnamon, brown sugar, flour, and butter, until crumbly.
- Sprinkle the topping evenly over the casserole.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden and the casserole is set.
- Let cool slightly before serving, and drizzle with maple syrup and powdered sugar, if desired.
Notes
For added crunch, you can sprinkle some chopped nuts on top before baking. Adjust the maple syrup according to your sweetness preference.
