Chicken Philly Cheese Steaks

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 sandwiches 1x

Description

Savor the rich flavors of these Chicken Philly Cheese Steaks, a delightful twist on the classic sandwich featuring tender chicken, sautéed peppers, onions, and gooey provolone cheese.

Ingredients

Scale

1 1/2 lbs boneless

skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)

thinly sliced against the grain

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

2 teaspoons olive oil

divided (plus more as needed)

1 tablespoon unsalted butter

1 large yellow onion

thinly sliced

2 bell peppers (green and red)

thinly sliced

2 garlic cloves

minced

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)

3/4 teaspoon kosher salt

plus more to taste

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

6–8 slices provolone (or white American)

4 hoagie rolls

split (lightly toasted optional)

Optional spreads: garlic-herb mayo

Dijon

or a pat of butter

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine the sliced chicken with Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon of olive oil, salt, and pepper. Toss to coat and set aside.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add the remaining olive oil and unsalted butter. Once melted, add the sliced onion and bell peppers. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until they begin to soften.
  • Add minced garlic and Italian seasoning (if using) to the skillet, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Push the vegetables to one side of the skillet and add the marinated chicken to the other side. Cook for about 8-10 minutes until the chicken is cooked through, stirring occasionally.
  • Once the chicken is cooked, mix it with the vegetables and reduce heat to low. Top the mixture with provolone slices, allowing the cheese to melt.
  • To serve, scoop the chicken and cheese mixture into toasted hoagie rolls and add any optional spreads if desired.

Notes

For extra flavor, marinate the chicken in Worcestershire sauce for at least 30 minutes before cooking. Adjust the seasoning to your taste.
