Description
Chicken Fried Chicken is a delicious twist on classic fried chicken, featuring tender, seasoned chicken breasts coated in a crispy, flavorful batter that brings comfort food to a whole new level.
Ingredients
6–8 thin sliced chicken breasts
2 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
1 1/2 cup buttermilk
1 egg
1 Tbs hot sauce
Oil for frying
1/4 cup reserved oil from frying
1/3 cup flour
2 cup milk
Salt & pepper
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, egg, and hot sauce.
- Dredge each chicken breast in the flour mixture, then dip in the buttermilk mixture, and finally coat with the flour mixture again for a double-crust finish.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat, enough to submerge the chicken pieces.
- Fry the chicken in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side. Transfers to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
- For the gravy, use 1/4 cup of the reserved oil from frying, whisk in 1/3 cup of flour over medium heat until golden.
- Gradually pour in 2 cups of milk, whisking constantly until thickened. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the Chicken Fried Chicken hot with gravy drizzled on top.
Notes
Make sure the oil is hot before adding chicken to achieve a crispy texture. Adjust the amount of hot sauce in the buttermilk according to your spice preference.
