1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons garlic scapes
finely diced
2 tablespoons scallions
finely diced
1 cup cheddar cheese
grated
1 cup (245g) buttermilk
cold
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon sea or kosher salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Grate the frozen butter into a mixing bowl and add flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix until well combined.
- Stir in the garlic scapes, scallions, and cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
- Make a well in the center and pour in the cold buttermilk. Mix just until the dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently about 5 times. Pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
- Cut the biscuits with a round cutter and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Melt 2 tablespoons of butter and brush over the tops of the biscuits, then sprinkle with sea salt.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Notes
For an extra cheesy flavor, sprinkle additional cheddar on top before baking.
