Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and spices. Mix well.
- Add the cold butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work it into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the diced pear and vanilla extract.
- Pour in the buttermilk and mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently pat it into a circle about 1 inch thick. Cut into wedges or rounds.
- Transfer the scones to the prepared baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes
For best results, ensure your butter is very cold. You can also add a sprinkle of sugar on top before baking for extra sweetness and crunch.
