Ingredients
Scale
- 5 medium apples Granny Smith and Honeycrisp mix peeled and diced
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- ⅓ cup brown sugar packed
- 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup water
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
- ½ cup heavy cream
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 box instant vanilla pudding mix 3.4 oz
- 2 cups cold whole milk
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 ½ cups heavy whipping cream
- ⅓ cup powdered sugar
- 1 loaf pound cake about 10.75 oz cut into cubes
- ¾ cup toasted pecans chopped
- extra caramel for drizzling
Instructions
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Cook until the apples are tender and caramelized, about 10 minutes. Set aside to cool.
- To make the salted caramel sauce, combine sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook until the sugar dissolves and turns a light amber color. Remove from heat and whisk in the butter and cream until smooth. Stir in the salt and vanilla extract. Let it cool slightly.
- For the cinnamon vanilla cream, combine the vanilla pudding mix and milk in a bowl and whisk until thickened. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the pudding mixture along with the ground cinnamon.
- In a trifle dish or individual cups, layer half of the pound cake cubes, followed by half of the cinnamon apples, half of the salted caramel sauce, and half of the cinnamon vanilla cream. Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.
- Top the trifle with chopped pecans and an extra drizzle of caramel sauce. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve.
Notes
For a richer flavor, you can mix in chopped nuts or chocolate chips into the layers. Make sure to let the caramel sauce cool down before layering to avoid melting the cream.
