Ingredients
1 store-bought angel food cake (10–12 oz)
8 oz cream cheese
softened
2 cups heavy whipping cream
¾ cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
zest of 2 lemons
2 cups fresh strawberries
hulled and sliced
1½ cups fresh blueberries
1½ cups fresh raspberries
¼ cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the fresh berries with granulated sugar and lemon juice. Toss gently and let macerate for about 15 minutes.
- In a separate large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add in the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and lemon zest. Whip until stiff peaks form.
- Tear the angel food cake into bite-sized pieces and layer half in the bottom of a trifle dish.
- Spread half of the cream filling over the cake layer.
- Add a layer of half of the macerated berries on top of the cream.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining cake, cream filling, and berries.
- Chill for at least 2 hours before serving to allow flavors to meld.
Notes
For the best flavor, use fresh, seasonal berries. You can substitute pound cake for a richer flavor if desired.
