This Autumn Spice Pear Cobbler is a warm, comforting dessert that combines tender pears with a spiced topping, perfect for the fall season.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 medium pears
  • peeled and chopped into about 1/2-inch pieces
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon ground allspice
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • pinch salt
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • cold and cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • ¼ cup milk
  • sanding sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, melt 3 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the chopped pears, granulated sugar, flour, ground cinnamon, salt, and vanilla extract. Stir to combine and cook until the pears are tender, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Transfer the pear mixture to a greased baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together 1 ½ cups flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, allspice, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt.
  5. Cut in the cold butter cubes until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the milk until just combined.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of the topping over the pear filling.
  7. Sprinkle sanding sugar on top of the cobbler.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For a twist, add chopped walnuts or pecans to the topping for added crunch.
