- 1 sheet (9 oz / 250g) of store-bought frozen puff pastry
- 2 medium apples (like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
- cored and thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup (120ml) of thick vanilla custard or pastry cream
- 2 tbsp (25g) of packed light brown sugar
- 2 tbsp (30g) of unsalted butter
- melted
- 1/2 tsp (1g) of ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp (15ml) of fresh lemon juice
- 1 large egg beaten with 1 tbsp (15ml) of water
- 1 tbsp (8g) of confectioners’ sugar
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to fit the baking sheet.
- Transfer the puff pastry to the prepared baking sheet and score a 1-inch border around the edges.
- Spread the vanilla custard evenly within the scored border.
- In a bowl, toss the thinly sliced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter.
- Arrange the apple mixture on top of the custard, overlapping the slices for a pretty presentation.
- Brush the edges of the puff pastry with egg wash for a golden finish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Serve warm or at room temperature. For an extra touch, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
