1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon pure almond extract

1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1 pinch salt

1 cup powdered sugar

sifted

2 to 3 tablespoons milk or heavy cream


Instructions

  • In a large bowl, whisk together 2 1/2 cups of flour and 1 teaspoon of salt. Cut in 1 cup of cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in 1/2 cup of ice water until the dough comes together. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for at least 30 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar, 1 cup of heavy cream, 1 cup of ground toasted almonds, 1/4 cup of flour, 1 teaspoon of almond extract, 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 1 pinch of salt. Mix well.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a rectangle. Spread the almond mixture evenly over the dough.
  • Roll the dough tightly into a log and shape it into a ring, sealing the edges. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool before glazing.
  • For the glaze, whisk together 1 cup of powdered sugar and 2 to 3 tablespoons of milk or heavy cream until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled kringle.
