Ingredients

Scale

Hot Dogs & Buns:

4 all-beef hot dogs (810 oz / 225280 g)

4 poppy seed hot dog buns

Toppings:

½ cup (120 g) diced white onion

1 large tomato, thinly sliced into wedges

4 kosher dill pickle spears

8 sport peppers (adjust to spice preference)

¼ cup (80 g) neon green sweet relish

1 teaspoon celery salt

1 teaspoon yellow mustard

Optional Garnish:

Fresh parsley or chopped chives

Freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

Prepare the Ingredients

Wash all vegetables. Dice onions, slice tomatoes into thin wedges, and cut pickles into spears. Slice sport peppers if needed.

Cook the Hot Dogs

Simmering: Bring a medium saucepan of water to a gentle boil. Reduce to simmer, add hot dogs, and cook 5–7 minutes.

Steaming: Place hot dogs in a steamer basket over boiling water and cover. Steam 5–6 minutes.

Toast the Buns (Optional)

Lightly toast cut-side down in a skillet for 1–2 minutes or under a broiler until golden.

Assemble the Chicago Dogs

Place hot dogs in buns.

Spread yellow mustard on each hot dog.

Spoon neon green relish along one side, add diced onions, tuck tomato wedges along the other side.

Insert a pickle spear on each side and top with 2 sport peppers.

Sprinkle with celery salt and optional parsley or chives.

Serve Immediately

Enjoy hot and fresh for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

Avoid ketchup to maintain authentic Chicago-style flavor.

Pre-slice and store toppings separately if prepping in advance to prevent soggy buns.

Adjust sport peppers according to desired spice level.
