This Turkey Bolognese is a healthier twist on the classic Italian dish, featuring lean ground turkey simmered in a rich tomato sauce, perfect for pasta lovers.
Ingredients
1 pound ground turkey
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 medium onion
finely diced
1 carrot
finely diced
2 celery stalks
finely diced
4 cloves garlic
minced
1/4 cup tomato paste
1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
1/2 cup whole milk
1/2 cup dry white wine (or chicken broth)
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
Salt and pepper
to taste
Fresh parmesan and basil for serving
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion, carrot, and celery, cooking until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Add the ground turkey, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook until browned.
- Mix in the tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, whole milk, and white wine or broth. Add the basil, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer, reduce the heat to low, and let it simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Serve over your favorite pasta and garnish with fresh parmesan and basil.
