Description
Sweet Alabama Pecan Bread is a moist, chewy Southern dessert bar loaded with buttery pecans and brown sugar caramel flavor. It’s easy to make, perfect for holidays, potlucks, or gifting, and delivers authentic Southern comfort in every bite.
Ingredients
1½ cups all-purpose flour
1½ cups chopped pecans (toasted if preferred)
1½ cups light brown sugar, packed
¾ cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
(Optional) ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
(Optional) Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
Preheat and Prepare: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line with parchment paper.
Combine Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, salt, and optional cinnamon. Set aside.
Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, beat eggs until slightly frothy. Add brown sugar, melted butter (cooled), and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
Combine and Fold: Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture. Stir gently until combined. Fold in pecans. Batter will be thick.
Bake: Spread batter evenly into prepared pan. Bake 30–35 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out mostly clean.
Cool and Slice: Let cool 15–20 minutes before slicing into bars, squares, or wedges. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
Toasting the pecans intensifies their flavor.
Avoid overmixing the batter to keep the texture moist.
Bars freeze well for up to 3 months.
