  • Total Time: 50
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Spicy Tuna Onigiri is a delightful Japanese rice ball filled with a zesty tuna mixture, perfect for a quick meal or snack.

Ingredients

Scale

3 cups cooked short grain rice

½ sheet nori or 2 sheets of nori

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black sesame seeds (optional)

water to moisten rice paddle

5.29 oz canned tuna in oil

2 tablespoons mayonnaise

1 tablespoon sriracha

Instructions

  • Prepare the cooked short grain rice and let it cool to room temperature.
  • In a bowl, mix the canned tuna, mayonnaise, and sriracha to create the spicy tuna filling.
  • Moisten a rice paddle with water and take a handful of rice, adding salt and mixing well.
  • Form a ball with the rice, making an indentation in the center for the tuna filling.
  • Place a spoonful of the spicy tuna filling in the indentation and mold the rice around it to form a triangle.
  • Wrap each onigiri with a strip of nori and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
  • Serve immediately or wrap in plastic wrap for later enjoyment.

Notes

For fresh rice, use about 1 cup of uncooked short grain rice which typically yields about 3 cups when cooked. Adjust spice levels in the tuna filling to your preference.
