Ingredients

Scale

For the Pumpkin Scones

2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour

1/4 cup (50 g) light brown sugar, packed

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup (115 g) cold unsalted butter, cubed

2/3 cup (150 g) pumpkin purée (not pumpkin pie filling)

1/3 cup (80 ml) heavy cream or whole milk

1 large egg

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

For the Maple Glaze

1 cup (120 g) powdered sugar, sifted

2 tablespoons pure maple syrup

1 tablespoon milk or cream (adjust for consistency)

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Oven and Baking Sheet
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat for even browning and easy cleanup.

Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients
Whisk together flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and salt in a large bowl.

Step 3: Cut in the Butter
Add cold butter cubes and cut into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or fingertips until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 4: Combine the Wet Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk pumpkin purée, cream (or milk), egg, and vanilla until smooth.

Step 5: Form the Dough
Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and gently mix until a soft dough forms. Avoid overmixing.

Step 6: Shape the Scones
Turn dough onto a floured surface. Pat into a 1-inch (2.5 cm) thick circle and cut into 8 wedges. Place on the baking sheet.

Step 7: Chill (Optional)
Refrigerate for 10–15 minutes for extra flaky scones.

Step 8: Bake
Bake for 16–18 minutes, until golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes on a wire rack.

Step 9: Make the Maple Glaze
Whisk powdered sugar, maple syrup, milk, and vanilla until smooth and pourable.

Step 10: Glaze and Serve
Drizzle glaze over cooled scones and allow to set for 5–10 minutes. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.

Notes

For added texture, mix in chopped pecans or mini chocolate chips.

Keep butter cold for flaky layers.

Chill dough before baking to prevent spreading.

If glaze is too thick, add a drop of milk; if too thin, add more sugar.
