Ingredients

1 tablespoon sugar

2 ÂĽ teaspoons instant yeast

1 teaspoon salt

1 ¾ cups warm milk (or water; around 110°F)

2 tablespoons melted butter

9 cups water

½ cup baking soda

1 large egg (mixed with 1 tablespoon of water)


Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  • Pour in the warm milk and melted butter, mixing until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large pot, bring 9 cups of water to a boil and stir in the baking soda.
  • Divide the risen dough into small pieces and shape each into a bite-sized ball.
  • Boil each pretzel bite for 30 seconds, then transfer to the baking sheet.
  • Brush with the egg wash and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
