This crowd-pleasing dip combines rich flavors and a crispy topping, making it an irresistible choice for any gathering, whether it’s game day, a party, or a cozy night in.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients:
1 lb ground breakfast sausage (such as Jimmy Dean)
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sour cream
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional but recommended)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (for extra flavor)
Salt and pepper to taste
For Topping:
1/2 cup breadcrumbs (for a crispy topping)
1 tablespoon melted butter (to mix with breadcrumbs)
Instructions
Step 1: Cook the Sausage
Heat a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the ground sausage and cook, breaking it up with a spatula as it browns (about 5-7 minutes).
Drain off any excess fat and set the sausage aside to cool slightly.
Step 2: Prepare the Dip Base
In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, shredded mozzarella cheese, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
Use a spatula or hand mixer to mix everything until smooth and fully incorporated.
Step 3: Add the Sausage
Once the sausage has cooled slightly, stir it into the creamy mixture until well distributed.
Step 4: Prepare the Topping
In a small bowl, mix together the breadcrumbs and melted butter.
Sprinkle this breadcrumb mixture evenly over the top of the dip.
Step 5: Bake the Dip
Transfer the mixture to a baking dish (preferably 9×9-inch or 8×8-inch size).
Place the dip in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes.
The dip is ready when it’s bubbling at the edges, the cheese is melted, and the breadcrumb topping is golden brown.
Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
Remove the dip from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Serve with chips, crackers, fresh vegetables, or slices of toasted baguette.
Notes
If you want a spicier version, add jalapeños, hot sauce, or crushed red pepper flakes.
To add crunch, top the dip with crumbled bacon before baking.
This dip can be made ahead of time, stored in the refrigerator, and baked later.
If you prefer a meat-free version, substitute the sausage with sautéed vegetables like mushrooms, spinach, and bell peppers.
