Known for its anti-inflammatory benefits, this iced version of the classic turmeric latte offers a cooling and energizing experience perfect for hot summer days or a healthy, refreshing treat any time. It’s a delicious and simple drink to make at home with ingredients you likely already have in your pantry.
Ingredients
For the Turmeric Mixture:
1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or any plant-based milk like oat, coconut, or soy)
1 teaspoon ground turmeric (use fresh turmeric if you prefer a more robust flavor)
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger (or fresh ginger for a stronger flavor)
1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
1/4 teaspoon black pepper (enhances turmeric absorption)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Iced Latte:
Ice cubes (as much as needed to fill your glass)
1/2 cup cold water (optional, to dilute the mixture to your preferred consistency)
For Garnish (optional):
Ground cinnamon or turmeric (for garnish)
Almond milk foam (optional for extra creaminess)
Instructions
In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup almond milk, 1 teaspoon turmeric, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Stir the mixture over medium-low heat for about 2-3 minutes, allowing the spices to blend and the mixture to heat gently. Remove from the heat once everything is well combined, and stir in 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. Taste, and adjust sweetness if needed.
Let the turmeric mixture cool for about 5-10 minutes at room temperature, or place it in the fridge to speed up the process. Cooling the mixture helps prevent the ice from melting too quickly and diluting the flavor.
Fill a tall glass with ice cubes. Pour the cooled turmeric mixture into the glass, filling it about 3/4 of the way. If you prefer a thinner drink, add 1/4 cup cold water or extra almond milk and stir well. Let the ice melt slightly, mixing the flavors together.
For extra creaminess, froth some almond milk using a milk frother or by whisking it by hand. Pour this frothy almond milk over your iced turmeric latte for a smooth, velvety texture.
Garnish your drink with a light sprinkle of ground cinnamon or turmeric for an extra touch of flavor and color. You can also add a cinnamon stick for added decoration and aroma. Stir everything together before sipping.
Notes
Sweetness Level: Adjust the amount of honey or maple syrup based on your sweetness preference. You can also use stevia or agave syrup as alternatives.
Milk Options: While almond milk is the most commonly used in this recipe, feel free to experiment with other plant-based milks such as oat, coconut, or soy. Coconut milk adds a rich, tropical flavor that pairs wonderfully with the spices.
Frothy Milk: If you want a foamy texture, try using a milk frother to foam up almond milk before adding it to the drink.
Vegan Option: Use maple syrup instead of honey for a fully vegan version of this recipe.
