Description
Learn how to make delicious Homemade Blueberry Bagels that are chewy, sweet, and bursting with blueberry flavor.
Ingredients
Blueberries
Warm water
Active dry yeast or instant yeast
Granulated sugar
Bread flour or strong all-purpose flour
Salt
Vanilla extract
Optional dried blueberries
Honey or maple syrup or brown sugar
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm water and yeast, allowing it to bloom for about 5 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine bread flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture, vanilla extract, and fresh or frozen blueberries to the flour mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal pieces.
- Shape each piece into a ball and poke a hole through the center, forming a bagel shape.
- In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add honey or other sweeteners.
- Poach each bagel for 2 minutes on each side, then place them on a baking sheet.
- Bake the bagels for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and chewy.
- Let them cool on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
You can adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of sugar or using different sweeteners for poaching. Dried blueberries can be added for an intensified flavor.
