For the Casserole Base:

1 lb (450 g) ground beef (lean or 80/20 blend)

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (14 oz / 400 g) diced tomatoes, drained

1 can (8 oz / 225 g) tomato sauce

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

½ teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)

8 oz (225 g) wide egg noodles or elbow macaroni, cooked and drained

For the Creamy Layer:

1 cup (240 ml) sour cream

1 cup (225 g) cottage cheese

¼ cup (60 ml) milk

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

½ teaspoon onion powder

For the Topping:

2 cups (200 g) shredded cheddar cheese

2 tablespoons chopped parsley (optional)


Instructions

Cook pasta in salted water until al dente; drain and set aside.

In a skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Add onion and garlic, cook until softened. Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and smoked paprika. Simmer 5–7 minutes.

In a bowl, mix sour cream, cottage cheese, milk, Worcestershire sauce, and onion powder until smooth.

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Layer half the pasta, half the beef mixture, and half the creamy sauce. Repeat layers and top with shredded cheddar cheese.

Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes until hot and cheese melts. Let rest 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Avoid overcooking pasta; it will finish cooking in the oven.

Use fresh shredded cheese for better melt and flavor.

Optional: Add breadcrumbs or crushed crackers on top for a crispy finish.
