Ingredients

1/2 cup butter
softened unsalted or salted
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 tbsp ground cinnamon
1 tbsp ground ginger
1 1/2 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp baking soda
2 cups all-purpose flour
4 tbsp water

Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and brown sugar until well combined.
- Stir in the molasses, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves until mixed.
- In a separate bowl, mix the baking soda with the flour, then gradually add to the wet mixture along with the water. Mix until a stiff dough forms.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into your preferred gingerbread house pieces.
- Place the pieces on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until firm.
- Once cooled, decorate with icing and candy as desired.
Notes
Ensure the dough isn’t too sticky by adding flour as needed. Allow the baked pieces to cool completely before decorating.
