Description
These Espresso Apple Cream Cheese Danishes combine flaky puff pastry with a creamy, sweet filling and caramelized apples, topped with a rich espresso drizzle.
Ingredients
2 sheets puff pastry
thawed
6 ounces cream cheese
softened
3 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 medium apples
thinly sliced (Honeycrisp or Pink Lady)
1/4 cup brewed espresso
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 egg
beaten (for egg wash)
1/4 cup caramel sauce
for drizzling
2 tablespoons pearl sugar or crushed nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut them into squares.
- Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry square.
- Top with thinly sliced apples, then drizzle with brewed espresso, and sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon on top.
- Fold the corners of the pastry squares towards the center and pinch to seal.
- Brush the tops with beaten egg and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before drizzling with caramel sauce and optionally topping with pearl sugar or nuts.
Notes
Make sure not to overfill the pastries. Serve warm or at room temperature for the best texture.
