Description
These Crispy Japanese BBQ Chicken Thighs are marinated to perfection and baked until golden brown, delivering a flavorful experience with every bite.
Ingredients
2 lb chicken thighs (cut into 1-inch bite-sized pieces for even cooking)
4 tbsp Japanese BBQ sauce (I always use Bachan’s Original for authentic flavor)
1.5 tbsp soy sauce (I prefer Kikkoman Less Sodium)
1 tbsp sriracha
6 garlic cloves (freshly minced to release natural oils)
1/2 tbsp ginger
1/2 tsp toasted sesame oil
1/4 tsp red chili flakes
salt
pepper
sesame seeds (toasted for a deeper nutty aroma)
green onions
Japanese BBQ sauce
yum yum sauce (Terry Ho’s is the best choice for this dish)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the Japanese BBQ sauce, soy sauce, sriracha, minced garlic, ginger, sesame oil, red chili flakes, salt, and pepper to create the marinade.
- Add the chicken thighs to the marinade and toss to coat evenly. Let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours for best flavor.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Spread the marinated chicken thighs evenly on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the chicken is golden brown and crispy, flipping halfway through for even cooking.
- Remove from the oven and let rest for a few minutes before serving.
- Garnish with toasted sesame seeds, chopped green onions, and serve with additional Japanese BBQ sauce and yum yum sauce on the side.
Notes
For added crunch, consider broiling the chicken for the last 2-3 minutes of cooking time. Adjust the amount of sriracha based on your spice preference.
