Description

A rich and indulgent chocolate pudding infused with zesty orange, cooked quickly in the microwave. Perfect for last-minute dessert cravings or entertaining with minimal effort.

Ingredients

Scale

For the pudding:

4 tbsp unsalted butter (plus extra for greasing)

1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar

1/4 cup (50 g) light brown sugar

1/4 cup (30 g) unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup (65 g) all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

1/8 tsp salt

1/3 cup (80 ml) whole milk

1 large egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

Zest of 1 medium orange (about 1 tbsp)

2 tbsp fresh orange juice

1/4 cup (45 g) dark chocolate chips (optional)

For the topping sauce:

2 tbsp cocoa powder

1/4 cup (50 g) sugar

1/2 cup (120 ml) boiling water

Instructions

Prepare dish: Grease a microwave-safe bowl or 4 ramekins with butter.

Melt butter: Microwave butter for 30 seconds, set aside to cool slightly.

Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, combine flour, cocoa, baking powder, salt, and both sugars.

Mix wet ingredients: In another bowl, whisk milk, egg, vanilla, orange zest, and juice. Stir in melted butter.

Make batter: Fold wet into dry until just combined. Add chocolate chips if using.

Fill dish: Pour batter into prepared dish, filling two-thirds full.

Add topping: Mix cocoa and sugar, sprinkle on top. Gently pour boiling water over without stirring.

Microwave: Cook on high—4–6 minutes for one large dish, or 2–3 minutes for ramekins. Pudding should be set on top but gooey underneath.

Rest and serve: Let sit 1–2 minutes, then serve warm with sauce.

Notes

Microwave wattages vary—adjust cooking time accordingly.

Serve fresh for best texture. Refrigerate leftovers up to 2 days.

Do not freeze, as the texture turns grainy.
