These Chicken Meatballs in Cream Sauce are a delicious and comforting dish that’s perfect for any weeknight dinner. Juicy ground chicken meatballs are smothered in a rich and creamy sauce that’s enhanced with garlic and Parmesan cheese.
Ingredients
½ cup plain breadcrumbs
1 tsp Italian seasoning
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp onion powder
¾ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper
3 Tbsp Parmesan cheese
1 lb. ground chicken
1 large egg
½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
2 Tbsp cooking oil
2 Tbsp butter
1 garlic clove
2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
1½ cups chicken broth
½ cup half and half
¼ tsp dried oregano
¼ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper
2 Tbsp Parmesan cheese
2 Tbsp lemon juice
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, Parmesan cheese, ground chicken, egg, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until well combined.
- Form the mixture into meatballs about 1 inch in diameter.
- Heat cooking oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are browned on all sides. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt the butter and add the minced garlic. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- Sprinkle the flour over the butter and garlic, stirring continuously for about 1 minute to form a roux.
- Gradually whisk in the chicken broth and half and half, bringing the mixture to a simmer. Stir in oregano, salt, black pepper, and additional Parmesan cheese.
- Return the meatballs to the skillet and simmer in the cream sauce for an additional 10-15 minutes, until fully cooked through.
- If desired, stir in lemon juice before serving.
Notes
For an added zing, consider serving with lemon wedges on the side. This dish pairs wonderfully with pasta or rice.
