Description
Candy apples are a timeless treat that combines the crispness of tart apples with a glossy, sweet candy coating. They are perfect for fall festivals, Halloween, or any sweet occasion.
Ingredients
6 medium apples (preferably tart varieties like Granny Smith)
2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup (Can be substituted with agave syrup)
3/4 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Food coloring (optional)
Chopped nuts or sprinkles (for decoration
optional)
Instructions
- Wash and dry the apples thoroughly, then remove the stems.
- Insert wooden sticks into the top of each apple to create a handle.
- In a saucepan, combine granulated sugar, corn syrup, and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Increase the heat and boil without stirring until the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and food coloring if desired.
- Dip each apple into the candy mixture, turning to coat completely, and let excess drip off.
- Place coated apples on a wax paper-lined baking sheet. Decorate with nuts or sprinkles if desired.
- Allow the candy coating to set before serving.
Notes
Ensure apples are completely dry for the candy coating to adhere properly. You can experiment with different colors and toppings for a fun twist.
