Instructions

  • Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add chopped shallots and minced garlic, and sautĂ© until fragrant.
  • Sprinkle in the flour and stir for 1 minute to create a roux, then gradually whisk in the broth until smooth.
  • Add heavy cream and Italian seasoning to the skillet, stirring to combine. Let it simmer for a few minutes until slightly thickened.
  • Stir in the broccoli and cook until tender, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Add the cooked pasta to the sauce and toss to combine. If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water a little at a time until desired consistency is reached.
  • Finish with lemon zest, lemon juice, and crushed red pepper to taste. Serve hot, topped with freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
