Description
This Broccoli Pasta recipe combines al dente pasta with fresh broccoli in a creamy, flavorful sauce that’s perfect for any weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
Pasta
Broccoli
Butter
Shallot
Garlic
Flour
Broth
Heavy cream
Italian seasoning
Crushed red pepper
Lemon
Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add chopped shallots and minced garlic, and sauté until fragrant.
- Sprinkle in the flour and stir for 1 minute to create a roux, then gradually whisk in the broth until smooth.
- Add heavy cream and Italian seasoning to the skillet, stirring to combine. Let it simmer for a few minutes until slightly thickened.
- Stir in the broccoli and cook until tender, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the cooked pasta to the sauce and toss to combine. If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water a little at a time until desired consistency is reached.
- Finish with lemon zest, lemon juice, and crushed red pepper to taste. Serve hot, topped with freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
Notes
For added flavor, consider sautéing some cooked chicken or shrimp along with the garlic and shallots.
