Ingredients
Dipping Sauce: ½ cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons cream-style horseradish sauce
2 ¼ teaspoons ketchup
¼ teaspoon paprika
¼ teaspoon salt
1 pinch ground black pepper
1 pinch cayenne pepper; Blooming Onion: 1 cup milk
1 egg
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 ½ teaspoons salt
1 ½ teaspoons cayenne pepper
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
½ teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon dried thyme
¼ teaspoon dried oregano
â…› teaspoon ground cumin
1 large onion
2 quarts vegetable oil for deep-frying
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix mayonnaise, horseradish sauce, ketchup, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper for the dipping sauce. Refrigerate until serving.
- Combine milk and egg in a bowl. In another bowl, mix flour, salt, cayenne pepper, black pepper, garlic powder, thyme, oregano, and cumin.
- Cut the onion in a bloom shape, leaving the root intact. Soak the onion in the milk and egg mixture, then dredge in the flour mixture.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer to 375°F (190°C). Carefully place the coated onion in the oil and fry until golden brown, about 10-15 minutes.
- Remove the blooming onion from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with the dipping sauce.
Notes
For best results, ensure that the oil is hot enough before frying to prevent sogginess.
