Ingredients
16 Boston Bibb or butter lettuce leaves
1 pound lean ground beef
1 tablespoon cooking oil
1 large onion
chopped
¼ cup hoisin sauce
2 cloves fresh garlic
minced
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
2 teaspoons minced pickled ginger
1 dash Asian chile pepper sauce
or to taste (Optional)
1 (8 ounce) can water chestnuts
drained and finely chopped
1 bunch green onions
chopped
2 teaspoons Asian (dark) sesame oil
Instructions
- Heat cooking oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
- Add the lean ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
- Stir in the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.
- Add the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, minced pickled ginger, and optional chile pepper sauce. Stir to combine.
- Incorporate the chopped water chestnuts and green onions into the mixture, cooking for another 2-3 minutes.
- Drizzle the sesame oil over the mixture before removing it from heat.
- To serve, spoon the beef mixture into the center of a lettuce leaf, wrap it up, and enjoy!
Notes
Feel free to customize the filling by adding other vegetables or substituting the ground beef for ground chicken or turkey. Serve with extra hoisin sauce on the side for dipping.
